RULES AND REGULATIONS

Law Enforcement Program (LEP) Rules & Regulations

The following rules and regulations will be in effect and be strictly enforced during the entire 2-year period.

Administrative Regulations:

  • Notices, schedules and special announcements will be posted on the bulletin board and each student is responsible for all information on same.

    • It is the intent to get students involved throughout the year in community events such as fingerprinting youngsters at our area schools and running in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. There will be an area of the bulletin board that will have such notices.

Clothing:

  • Beginning Monday, October 3rd, 2011 the dress code requirements are as follows:

  • Student will wear the Uniform of the Day, which is designated by the instructor.

    • Uniform 1: Black gym shorts, white athletic socks, HCTC PT shirt and running sneakers

    • Uniform 2: Polo shirt, khaki pants, black belt, socks and appropriately matching shoes

    • Uniform 3:

      • Men: Dress or khaki pants, button up dress shirt (solid color), matching tie, black belt, black socks, solid black shoes or boots

      • Women: Dress or dress pants, blouse, socks or nylons and shoes

    • Uniform 4: Civilian casual dress. The shirts must not be ripped or torn and be consistent with that of a professional nature. No inappropriate logos or sayings will be allowed. The pants must not contain holes or otherwise portray that of an unprofessional nature.

Jewelry:

  • Students will comply with the following:

    • Men: No visible piercing is allowed during any activity associated with the Criminal Justice Program (i.e. class, field trips, ride alongs and public presentations).

    • Women: Visible piercing is limited to one set of small (no large or long dangling) earrings in the ear.

    • No collars or wristbands are allowed.

    • Visible body piercing is prohibited unless approved by the instructor.

Hair and Makeup:

  • Students will comply with the following:

    • Makeup will be consistent with a professional appearance. No fads such as Gothic will be allowed.

    • Hair will be consistent with the following:

      • Men: Hair must be neatly trimmed above the collar with the sides above the ears. The top must be consistent with the rest of the hair cut. Hair color must be consistent with a “natural” hair color. The only facial hair allowed is a mustache, as long as it is closely trimmed and neatly kept. The mustache must not extend beyond the corners of the mouth. Sideburns shall not extend below the bottom of the ear opening.

      • Women: Hair must be worn in a ponytail or put up above the collar. Hair tint/coloring must be consistent with a “natural” hair color.

Personal Conduct:

  • The following types of behavior are considered a direct violation of the LEP Code of Conduct:

    • Engaging in the use/possession/sale/transferring of any illegal substance

    • Engaging in the use/possession/sale/transferring of any illegally prescribed drug

    • Engaging in any type of behavior that is deemed as illegal, immoral or unethical by the instructor.

    • Engaging in acts of bullying.

    • Engaging in inappropriate conduct with another LEP student.

    • Any student who is arrested or summoned for any misdemeanor or felony shall report same to the instructor within 24 hours or the next school day. Furthermore, any LEP student who is reported to the LEP instructor by any member of the law enforcement community for any infraction or, conduct unbecoming of a member of the LEP, shall result in the student having a meeting with the instructor to discuss potential disciplinary action.

    • Disrespecting one another as well as all staff, instructor(s) and guest speakers.

General classroom etiquette:

  • Address instructors, guest speakers and staff as Mr., Mrs., Ms., or Sir / Ma’am

  • Take notes during class, as notes may be the only record of instructions that are presented.

  • Turn work in when due (5 points will be deducted for each day work is late unless prior arrangements are made).

  • Organize all notes, handouts, and other class material in a binder.

  • Attend class daily

  • Keep daily journals referring to the classroom experience, news in the field and any other topics the instructor assigns.

  • Come to class daily with all materials necessary, including uniform of the day, and participate in the class or training.

  • Turn cell phones off or on vibrate during class. No calls will be made or accepted during class unless an emergency exists.

  • Sit in assigned seats as directed by the instructor.

First Violation:

  • Upon identifying or being notified of the violation, the instructor will make immediate corrective action to the violation. Depending on the severity, a meeting with the principle may be arranged. Written documentation of the action will be placed in the students LEP file.

Second Violation:

  • A meeting with the instructor will be conducted, as well as a meeting with the HCTC principle. Depending on the severity of the violation other disciplinary action may be taken. Written documentation of the action will be placed in the students LEP file.

Third Violation:

  • Depending on the violation, actions will be taken to have the student dismissed permanently from the program, as this type of conduct is not conducive with that of a student aspiring to be a law enforcement officer. Written documentation of the action will be placed in the students LEP file.

Class make-up policy and extra help:

  • Students are required to make-up work with the instructor within 5 school days of the absence.

  • I understand that not all buses will arrive at the same time. If upon your arrival the class is engaged in a unit of instruction, it is your responsibility to get with the instructor as to the material missed.

Law Enforcement I Students

  • First Trimester

  • Third Trimester

Law Enforcement II Students
