Hospitality is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. By 2021, there will be 328 million people working in the industry worldwide, with one new job being added every 2.5 seconds.
This course will provide an overview of the current hospitality and tourism industry. Year 1 focuses on the operational aspects of the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. Starting with the history of Hospitality and available careers and working through all four scopes of the industry. The foundations and operations of transportation, food and beverage, lodging, and attractions will be covered as well as safety and security, the financial process, communication, and sales and marketing. In addition, this course will focus on objectives, strategies, and tools for marketing and customer service skills for any type of business.
Year 2 builds upon the foundations of the first year with additional focus on management skills. Students will begin building their leadership skills and how to implement them professionally. Students will have the opportunity to work independently on a career pathway in any of the four scopes of the Hospitality industry.
This is a business related program with a combined curriculum of units in: business operations, customer service, planning, and recreation. This program will include internship opportunities, field trips, event planning, and guest speakers. Possible industry certifications to be included are through the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.
Possible Career pathways include: hotel/lodging management, event planning, park and recreation management, sports management, event and convention management, and tourism.
Throughout the 2 years, students will work to complete a 100-hour industry related internship.
Note Completion of the internship is required for CHTMP (Certified Hotel and Tourism Management Professional) certification.
Year 1 meets Monday-Friday from 8:15 am-10:30 am.
Year 2 meets Monday-Thursday from 11:45 am-2:15 pm and Friday from 11:45 am-1:15 pm.
