FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is CTE?

CTE stands for Career and Technical Education

Who can attend HCTC?

Sophomores, Junior and Seniors from Hancock County.

How do I apply?

The HCTC Director visits sending schools throughout the month of February to provide information to all students regarding programming and admissions. All applications for HCTC will now be online. Links to the application will be given to students in these presentations and sessions, emailed to students, and posted on the HCTC website and facebook page. The application includes biographical information and a short answer essay question. Students will be notified of acceptance sometime around April vacation. Questions should be directed to our director at btracy@ellsworthschools.org

What if I’m homeschooled student?

Homeschooled students can contact HCTC’s main office for an application. Homeschooled students need to be enrolled in their community’s public high school in order to receive the CTE credits as HCTC does not award credits. However, they do not need to attend that school.

How many CTE credits are awarded?

HCTC does not award credits for our programs. It is up to the sending high school what credits are awarded. Typically it is between three and four credits per year for a CTE program.

Inclement Weather Closings:

When Hancock County Technical Center is closed, the news will report it as Ellsworth School Department. Automated texts, calls and emails go out from the information provided to the school.

  • If we are in session, but a sending school is closed due to inclement weather, those students are not expected to attend HCTC.

  • If we have an hour delay, we will still have morning programs, they will start at 9:30 instead of 8:30.

  • When there is a 2 hour delay, we do not have morning programs. Afternoon sessions will happen as normal. All day students will arrive after the delay.

  • When HCTC is in session, but a sending school has an hour delay, students will arrive an hour late. If we are in session and a sending school has a two hour delay, students do not come for the morning session, but afternoon sessions happen as normal.

What time does the bus leave/return to the sending schools?

Questions about bus transportation to and from HCTC should be directed toward the sending schools’ transportation departments.
