THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

Ellsworth High School follows the National Science Foundations recommendation for course progression. Our students begin their exploration of science in Integrated Science which lays the foundational knowledge in Earth Science and Physics. Their second year builds upon this in Chemistry which provides the students the basic knowledge necessary to explore the chemical nature of modern Biology in their third year. Although not required, our students are encouraged to take a fourth year of science, preparing them for careers in engineering & mathematics, health care, research, and environmental resource management.

The Science Practices of the Next Generation Science Standards are a common theme to all science course here at Ellsworth High School. We focus on collaborative learning, laboratory experiences, critical thinking, and working with data. Our students work with top of the line science equipment that is found in the industry. We use 21st Century technology tools including a variety of hand held sensors. Students generate the data that apply to their learning and academic experiences.
