I am Donald Saunders and I came to work for the Ellsworth School Department in July of 2015. Previously I worked for a year as the full-time spare driver for RSU#24. In 2014, I stopped working for Cyr Bus Line in Old Town as a part-time motor coach driver after 18 years and in that position I found myself driving all over the northeast on weekends and vacations. I retired from giving driver examinations for the State of Maine, Bureau of Motor Vehicles in 2013 after nearly 36 years of service. From 1973 to 1978, I was the band director and summer driver education instructor for Ellsworth High School. Currently, I work summers as a part-time tour guide for Oli’s Trolley in Bar Harbor and throughout the year teach the Maine Driving Dynamics classes for the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. I married my high school sweetie, Sherry Davis in 1970 and have four daughters, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a golden retriever, a collie and a cat named Cassie. My school duties find me responsible for the bus garage, mechanic, bus drivers, new driver training, home to school routing, maintenance of sixteen buses, trip schedules, all compliance with the Department of Education and Bureau of Motor Vehicles and donuts every eighth Friday morning for our driver meetings. I can generally be reached at the bus garage at 412-0280 and welcome your call.
