I have been the Curriculum Director for the Ellsworth School Department since 2014 and have been proud to help with ESD's transition from being part of a larger group of schools to working independently to create a unique vision for the Ellsworth educational community. Before arriving in Ellsworth, I served in the same role for three years at School Union # 93, serving the schools of Blue Hill, Brooksville, Castine, Penobscot, and Surry.
For most of my childhood, my family drove from our homes, first in Michigan and then Chicago, to camp in Acadia National Park. Throughout my life, no matter where I lived, I always returned to this area as often as possible for the beauty and character of this special part of the world and have built strong friendships and professional connections in this community.
I received my Bachelor's of Science degree in 1990 from Wesleyan University in Connecticut in Psychology/Sociology and Theater. In 1996, after relocating to Miami, Florida, I received my Masters in Elementary Education from Barry University and became a first and second grade teacher in the culturally diverse Wynwood neighborhood for 12 years. In 2006, I received my PhD in Leadership in Exceptional Student Education.During this time, I channeled my love for children's literature and the arts into the creation of Leaping Literacy, a children's literacy, art, music and movement writing program for summer and after school enrichment This program found a home in several libraries and school districts in this area, originating at the Southwest Harbor Public Library during our summer visits. In the middle of winter, 2011, my husband, Ray, my daughters Eliza and Julia, and I packed our lives up and arrived on Mount Desert Island to start a new chapter as year-round residents.
I am pleased to be a part of the educational community in Hancock County both as a professional and as a parent and am grateful for the generosity of so many colleagues who helped me learn the ins and outs of the Maine educational system. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
if you have any questions about our program here in Ellsworth.
