I am honored to serve as the Director of Ellsworth Adult Education. Starting a new program from the roots is an energizing experience for me. This year I am lucky to serve as director, advisor and teacher. Working in these three roles gives me the opportunity to get to know all the students, spend time exploring engaging ways to teach and develop programs to meet adult student needs in a town that is quickly becoming my new home.

I have been working in the field of adult education since 1986. I started as a child care aide at Portland Adult Education. Since then I've been a V.I.S.T.A. volunteer, advisor, teacher, home visitor, academics coordinator, grant writer, administrator and more. The adult students I have known through the years have inspired me and guided me in designing and creating programs to meet the needs of our communities.

I grew up overseas and went to school in Holland, Belgium and Bulgaria. I came back to the United States to attend Bowdoin College where I received a A.B. in Government & Legal Studies, spending a semester abroad in Sri Lanka. My background has given me insights into culture and community and inspired me to look outside the box for solutions to challenges. My family roots are in Hancock County and I've been lucky to live in this area since 1987 when I started to work in adult education in the Downeast area.

One of the many aspects that I love about adult education is that we can respond to community needs quickly to support individuals, organizations and the community. I hope you'll be in touch if you can think of ways that our adult education program can strengthen Ellsworth through adult learning.

We offer programs Fall, Winter and Spring in all areas-- basic literacy and math, English language learning, adult high school completion, college transitions, career advising, computer literacy, workforce certificate programs, enrichment offerings. Adult students can join our program at any time by scheduling an appointment with me to make a plan to meet their needs. Many of our programs are available at no cost-- all are affordable.

We are always looking for course ideas and instructors to teach them. PLEASE contact me, if you have thoughts to share. And learn more about our program or register for classes by visiting the Ellsworth Adult Education website available on this page.
